Wonders / Miracles of 21th Century.

CHRISTIANITY:

A statue of virgin Mary supposedly shed tears of blood in Switzerland in 1992.
In a Chapel in Hungary, a mysterious bright glow shaped as a human figure appeared at the alter.

Various holy leaders like Pastor Benny Hinn reportedly perform miracles of healing by invoking the spirit og God.

ISLAM:

Allah’s name was said to be appear on the oceans, as seen through satellite images in 2004.

In the aftermath of the great Tsunami of 2005 which rocked Indonesia, it was found that many mosques had incredibly survived while the surrounding buildings were destroyed.

HINDUISM:

Many healing miracles have been reported to be performed by Shirdi Sai Baba and Chaitanya Mahaprabu.

The famous Banke Bihari temple of Vrindavan is famous because it is said that lord Krisna dwells in the premises and performs the raas in the nearby Madhuban every night.

These are all recent miracles that happened in between 10-12 years. I’ve got the details from “The Hindu”- a leading daily newspaper from India.

Islam:What the West Should Know

Like other religions, Islam sees the universe in terms of good and evil; but unlike other religions, in Islam good and evil have expressly political significance. Islamic theology divides the world into two spheres locked in perpetual conflict: the House of Islam and the House of War. The House of Islam embraces those lands where Islamic law (Sharia) is the law of the land, while the House of War comprises the rest of the world. The House of Islam is enjoined by Allah to make war upon the House of War until the latter is permanently assimilated into the former.

The term jihad, which literally means “struggle”, denotes the military effort to bring new lands into the House of Islam. While the state of war between the Islamic and non-Islamic worlds is sometimes hot and sometimes cold, it is permanent until Sharia law reigns over the entire planet.

It is crucial to understand that Islam’s division of the world into the House of Islam and the House of War is not merely a question of practice but of principle. In the Islamic worldview, Sharia law (which comprises the commandments of the Koran and the precedents and teachings of Muhammad) is the only legitimate means of organizing society; any other social or political system violates the edicts of Allah himself. While every religion distinguishes between believers and unbelievers, Islam draws a capital distinction between political-legal regimes: those in submission (Islam) to Allah’s law and those in rebellion.

Because most Americans and Europeans misunderstand the political nature of Islam, they talk about Islamic terrorism as if it bears no relationship to Islam proper. But the notion that authentic religion in general is naturally peaceful is a Western prejudice rather than a demonstrated truth. In order to understand the origins of Islamic violence, we must be willing to discard many comforting assumptions and try to see the world from an Islamic point of view. Acquiring a basic grasp of the Islamic worldview does not require learning Arabic or taking a pilgrimage to Mecca. But it does require investment of some time and thought to become familiar with the origins and history of Islam and the life of its founder, the Prophet Muhammad. Few Westerners have made such an investment, preferring instead to assume blindly that Muslims practicing their faith are not so very different from the true believers of other religions. That assumption is not only wrong – it is deadly.

Of course, Muslims (like Christians, Jews, and members of any religion) often fail to understand or live up to the standards of their faith. But what distinguishes Islam from other religions is that when it is correctly understood and practiced, Islam actively seeks the subjugation or destruction of everything that is not itself. Non-Islamic religions may seek the conversion or evangelization of others, and their devotees may employ force against others from time to time.

Drug abuse

Drug abuse is one of those unnecessary sufferings that a person brings on himself or herself. The sad thing is that it is usually a one-way street to a life of despair and hopelessness once a person makes the mistake of taking the first step. Worst of all, it is the younger generation that are more susceptible to the influences of peers and harmful company to try it because it is ‘cool’. Only upon sinking into this quicksand, that one realizes that it is too late to cry about it. Fortunately, there are drug rehab centers in most countries that are setup to help those who want to give their lives a fighting chance. The drug treatment programs offered by these centers will go some way to help drug abusers but a very tough struggle still awaits those who want to break free.

Below are some anti-drug abuse posters that we found interesting and worth sharing. It is a somber reminder not to take life for granted and to not fall into the trap of needlessly throwing our lives away. Drug rehab is always a possible alternative for those who have made that mistake and hopefully, through perseverance, they will succeed in breaking free and claiming their lives back. Stay drug free!

Cough Medicine Abuse

You already know about the dangers of illegal street drugs like marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamine. But did you know that some teens are abusing legal products like cough medicine, to get high?

Q: What is cough medicine abuse?

Cough medicine abuse is taking extremely large doses of cough medicine to get high. The “high” is caused by taking a large amount of dextromethorphan, which is often abbreviated DXM, a common active ingredient found in many cough medications. This sort of abuse — whether it’s called cough medicine abuse, or dextromethorphan, or DXM abuse — can be dangerous. DXM is very popular in the US.
But here in a small country like ours in the middle of south east asia ; Bangladesh is also facing the same problem. Phensedyl - a very popularly used cough syrup among youth.

Q: What is dextromethorphan / Phensidyl?

Dextromethorphan is a safe and effective active ingredient found in many nonprescription cough syrups, tablets, and gel caps. When used accordingly to medicine label directions, the ingredient dextromethorphan produces few side effects and has a long history of safety. When abused in large amounts, it can produce a “high” feeling as well as a number of dangerous side effects.

Q: What are the effects of cough medicine abuse?

The effects of the abuse of cough medicines containing dextromethorphan vary with the amount taken. Common effects include confusion, dizziness, double or blurred vision, slurred speech, loss of physical coordination, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, rapid heart beat, drowsiness, numbness of fingers and toes, and disorientation. DXM abusers describe different “plateaus” ranging from mild distortions of color and sound to visual hallucinations, “out-of-body” dissociative sensations, and loss of motor control. Side effects can be worsened if the dextromethorphan-containing cough medicine being abused also contains other ingredients to treat more than just coughs.

Cough medicine also is sometimes abused in combination with other medications, alcohol and illegal drugs, which can increase the dangerous side effects.

Q: What cough medicines contain dextromethorphan, or DXM or Phensidyl?

There are well over 100 OTC medicines that contain dextromethorphan, either as the only active ingredient or in combination with other active ingredients. Some examples include Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Medicine, Coricidin HBP Cough and Cold, Dayquil LiquiCaps, Dimetapp DM, Robitussin cough products, Sudafed cough products, Triaminic cough syrups, Tylenol Cold products, Vicks 44 Cough Relief products and Vicks NyQuil LiquiCaps. There also are a number of store brands that contain DXM.

Q: What are slang terms for dextromethorphan / Phensidyl?

Slang terms for dextromethorphan vary by product and region. Adults should be familiar with the most common terms, which include Dex, DXM, Robo, Skittles, Syrup, Triple-C, and Tussin. Terms for using dextromethorphan include: Robo-tripping, and Skittling, among others. Phensidyl known as fantu, dyl, syrup, mobil, mal, D etc.

Q: How common is cough medicine abuse?

Recent research indicates that the abuse of DXM cough medicine is a greater problem than previously thought. The research shows that one out of 10 teens, or over two million teens, from across the country and of all backgrounds, has abused cough medicine to get high. Often, these teens are finding information about cough medicine abuse and effects of dextromethorphan on the Internet.

Q: Where are teens finding information about cough medicine abuse?

There is little in current teen culture — music, movies, fashion, and entertainment — that promotes or even mentions cough medicine abuse. The one exception is the Internet.
A number of disreputable web sites promote the abuse of cough medicines containing dextromethorphan. The information on these sites includes recommending how much to take, suggesting other drugs to combine with DXM, instructing how to extract DXM from cough medicines, promoting drug abuse in general, and even selling a powder form of dextromethorphan for snorting. You should be aware of what your teen is doing on the Internet, the web sites he or she visits, and the amount of the time he or she is logged on.

What Parents Can Do To Prevent Cough Medicine Abuse

Educate Yourself

– Educate yourself about cough medicine abuse and share this information with others who are in contact with your teen, such as school administrators, coaches and counselors .

– Make sure you’re aware of the signs of cough medicine abuse and what to watch out for.
Communicate with Your Teens .

– Be clear that you do not want your teen taking medicine without your knowledge.
– Teach your teens and younger children to respect medicines. Medicines are important tools in healthcare, but they must be used according to directions.

– Make sure your teen understands that abusing cough medicine — just as abusing illegal drugs
can be very dangerous.
Safeguard Medications at Home and Other Places

– Know what medicines are in your home and pay attenton to quantities.

– Keep all medications out of reach and out of easily accessible places like medicine cabinets.
– If your child needs medications during school hours, speak with school officials about medicine policies in the school.

DXM / Phensidyl syrup

DXM

DXM, also known as dextromethorphan, is a cough-suppressing ingredient found in a variety of over-the counter cold and cough medications. It is getting popularity in US. When taken according to directions, products containing DXM produce few side effects and have a long history of safety and effectiveness as cough suppressants. When abused in high amounts, DXM becomes a dissociative* drug that can become dangerous.

Shannon,24, Talks About DXM:

“I was looking for something that was easy to find, easy to do and something I enjoyed. And I had heard about DXM from my boyfriend at the time – because he and his friends were all into this stuff, so I was like ‘I’m gonna try it.’

“It became a tool that I used to take me out of the reality that I hated so much.

“When I used DXM, I thought it that it enhanced my writing, it made me think more, it made me become more artistic – I thought it enhanced the talents I already had. I would do my writing and my art while I was tripping, and I go back and look at it now and I’m like, ‘I thought this was good? I can’t even read it.’ It was horrible. I was so deluded into thinking that because it gave me that feeling — and that’s what I was so attracted to about it and that’s what I was ultimately addicted to – that feeling.”

Shawn, 23, Talks About Dextromethorphan:

“DXM was actually introduced to me by a friend that I’ve know for a very long time. He told me to try it one time and it got really bad from there.

The first time I tried DXM I couldn’t even walk. I had problems getting up but I really liked the feeling. I liked that I didn’t feel normal.

I became a really relaxed person – at least I thought I was, but my friends and family all said that I was off the wall and I was actually insane.

I noticed that I was doing everything I wanted to do – screw other people I didn’t care how they felt – I didn’t care about nobody. Nothing and nobody – not my parents, not my family, not my friends – I was living for me and my drug.

My downfall all started when I felt I became invincible and I started doing things I shouldn’t have been doing – breaking into cars, robbing people. Nobody could stop me – a bullet couldn’t stop me. I didn’t care if I got shot – I didn’t care about that stuff.”

*A dissociative is a drug which reduces (or blocks) signals to the conscious mind from other parts of the brain, typically to the physical senses. Such a state of sensory deprivation and dissociation can facilitate hallucinations, and dreamlike states of mind which may resemble some psychedelic mind states

Love, Marriage & Relationship.

Last night one thing came to my mind; after talking to one of my old friend I didn’t see from the university days. I was reflecting some things from my past and this matter just jumped into my head.

In my culture, and as far as I know, the divorce rate is unbelievably high compared to past and some people just shake their heads, how this can be possible.

Well, from my point of view, first thing about all the divorcing is that the pressure of society is far not so big as it used to be. In Europe there used to be a strong influence of Christianity on everyday life and politics and it was shaping all the social life of families, future families and society in common; so something like divorce was extremely frown upon and almost impossible to achieve; and even if the man was treating his woman really badly. As well it was much easier for a man himself to get divorced, than for a woman. Inability to have children, to give son(s), to cheat, to not behave submissive, following and respectful, all those and more used to be a simple reason for a man to get easily divorced, while woman with same problems didn’t have a chance.

Marriages de convenances were more than common it past and it was not anything strange to get married to a person you didn’t almost know. In same cases it lead to very unhappy pairs with all the vicious stuff being done between them; or, in much better case, it lead to certain feelings, I might say love in the couple.

I was reflecting my past, as I already mentioned, and I realized that I can call the relationship with my amazing wife marriage de convenance. When I proposed to her, I certainly had some feelings for her, but I have to say more friendly than passionate love. I agreed and we got engaged, and during time we fell more and more in love with each other, and now I can calmly claim I love her as nobody; and the thing that we didn’t have rose glasses of hormones and all the craziness of a first-sight love, we had time to get to know each other well with all good and bad sides. The feelings grew slowly but surely and now the love is strong; and we avoided a lot of misunderstandings and disappointing caused by putting off the rose glasses.

Funny thing is I am almost ashamed to mention this thing in front of most people of my country because they look on this matter in a very contemptuous way, like I was somebody who spawned from the dark middle ages; to agree to marry a person I do not love (honestly, definition of love changes from person to person, as I found out).

It took long time of getting to know each other and caring about each other, as well for the feelings to grow so strong, that in the end we both were more than surprised what happened. Positively, I gotta say.

On the other hand, I am sure that true love matches can recognize it in the beginnings, marry and live happily ever after. They just have to realize the raw fact that the hormonal storm which happened in the beginning is lower and lower by time and it disappears around second year; so after that they have to put more effort to tolerate each other and face up to reality of totally different kind of love; the more steady, more stable, deeper feeling, but with less passion compared to the amazing first days and weeks and less fever and excitement than they used to feel. Some pairs survive, some not, here is a point where a lot of marriages end up being divorced.

And there’s a point when I can say that if we had more brains put in the relations and less hormones, we will have better divorce rate. A lot of relations end up after short period because they were just over helmed by the whirlwind of crazy feelings and didn’t plan to feel in another way; and they become so shocked by it that they prefer to break up and jump right ahead in another hormonal tornado with another partner for another few weeks… and repeat it so long, till they get disgusted by all relations and claim to be rather single than with partner and that it is just natural to support all our promiscuity and that pairs who survived long and with feelings are just strange; or lying.

This “thing of love” is also supported by all the press, media, books, magazines, all the society; for me it looks like something to substitute the lack of faith in something divine; the more they refuse any religion, faith or believing, the more they believe in the supreme power of love and refuse to admit, that love is not only a feeling which can come by itself, but it is a feeling one has to work on, care about and not just leave to be as it is. It’s not a sure and almighty emotion and one should behave according to this fact. It’s just good to put some effort into living in pair, preparing for later years and counting with inevitable facts, that hormones are just the beginning and true feelings are the end; and it is also important to realize that hormones are not the emotion, not the feeling, they are just an illusion we got from nature and God to keep us pairing to have children and preserve the human race; and the true love comes later and requires the conscious too, besides emotions and heart.

I am not advocating forced marriages or marriages de convenance made by parent while the betrothed couple doesn’t know a simple thing about each other. By all means, this I consider as bad planning and making just few more people on the planet unhappy; with some tiny exceptions.

I am just trying to bring my own view to the world running by me so fast, that they advertise love as the only thing to keep a couple together, while they mean just chemicals produced by body.

Marriage de convenience is not bad, when you feel something for the other half, you know you may love him / her and you both agree to try it out; you can find out that all the previous jumping from one to other was wrong, because you forgot to use your head and think of future; you saw the picture made by your body, not heart, and you just refused to think of the fact, that once you tried to imagine life after twenty years with that partner, you were not able because you really didn’t know him / her, or you did and you knew it won’t work after the hurricane of beginning is gone; but you wanted to enjoy the moment and than go and try it again, with somebody else. And then, with somebody else. And after few years you realized, that you are not getting younger and jumped into a marriage with the next partner you feel that with, and after few years you get divorced, because it didn’t work after all.

Truth - The Reality..

In today’s stressful world people often want safety and security rather than something as noble as truth. They don’t believe that the truth will set them free. When the primitive brain is activated through the stresses and challenges of life, we revert to its primary objective: assure personal security above all else. Often we feel more secure if we simply align ourselves with the collective thinking, and adopt what society or others believe and hold to be true. There is a price to pay for this way of gaining security, albeit a false security. That price is loss of soul. Soul demands personal sensitivity to what is real and responsibility for expressing that truth.

The pursuit of truth often puts one at odds with this social security. When we pursue truth we do so using the prefrontal cortex of the brain and the intelligence of the heart. When these two most developed physical organs are active, our truth detector, the soul, can function through us. For this to happen, we must go beyond concerns of safety and security and be willing to take the responsibility of sharing and loving as a response to the awareness of truth we will discover.

“I am the way, the truth and the life.” These words are attributed to the incarnation of Divinity, thus to the soul. Soul is the way or the path upon which the individual meets one’s universality. This is where Human and God become one. This oneness is the truth of who we all are in our essence.

Truth is reality - what is. Truth is universal, but our experience of it is invariably relative. Universal truth means that it is present everywhere and always. There is truth on form levels as well, but here truth is relative - i.e., relative to the level or dimension in which it exists. Gravity is a truth on the physical level, which means that we live in a world where gravity affects us as a fact of life. Anger is a truth on the emotional level; it exists in our earthly reality. A thought is a truth on the mental level; we have minds, and we have the ability to reason and think. And since these form levels are experienced by individuals with these bodies, the experience of truth on these levels is not only relative, but also subjective. We do have what are called ‘objective’ truths, but these are probably more accurately described as ‘consensual’ truths - things that we collectively, or in large numbers, agree upon.

Truths are formulations of universal realities. All relative truths are expressions of universal truth, as they are particulars of the universal.

Most of us have been conditioned to rely on external authorities to tell us what is true and what is not true. These authorities were originally parents, then society and culture, and perhaps also religion. We tend to believe as true whatever is reported by the media because the media says it is true. Most people have not developed trust within themselves to detect truth, and so they call truth whatever they want to believe. Thus truth becomes relative to one’s beliefs, having abandoned the quest for universal Truth.

The word for truth used in the phrase, “I am the way, the truth and the life,” is alethe in Greek. It means ‘not to forget.’ It suggests that if we are to remember who we are, our universality, we must identify with soul which is imbued with Spirit, our ultimate Truth. We must go within to find the way, and allow our heart to guide us on our way, for it is capable of knowing Truth, of knowing what is real. To remember means to put ourselves back together again with who we really are, connecting our individuality with our universality, our relative truth with our ultimate truth.

What makes anything true is the degree to which it contains universal reality, the degree of its beauty, its goodness, its love, its intelligence, its response to fulfilling needs, its contribution to the whole. We have a Truth Detector within us. When we don’t trust it we live in illusion about ourselves and others, thereby hurting ourselves and others.

No one person’s truth is greater than another’s, and no one person can grasp the whole. It is together, collectively, in the grasping of the various truths of life, derived from our experiences, that truth itself, can be approached.

To be able to know what is true and what is not we must develop two mental senses: discernment and discrimination. We must first of all develop discrimination - the mental ability to make a distinction between things and know the definitions of things. Then we must develop discernment to be able to relate to the inherent quality of things. (This requires soul influence on the mind.) The quality of things are revealed by their relationships. When something is in relation to something else it is the quality of the being or thing that makes the actual connection, not something external. The level of relationship discovered depends upon the observer’s ability to sense or be conscious. We discover the ultimate quality of anything when we can see its ultimate relationship to the Spirit cause of its existence, when we know the universal reality or law that maintains it in existence. This awareness is soul consciousness. The most universal quality of anything that we can detect is its recognition and support of the value of everyone and everything in the whole of life. It is completely selfless.

Our 21st century calling is to be a revealer of truth. That sounds rather pompous and presumptuous. And it is - for the personality. But it is not for the soul conscious one who is willing to serve. Fears and rationalizations of many kinds will surface in the face of this invitation. But understand it correctly and we see that there is nothing to fear. Mistakes will be made, of course. But we learn from mistakes.

We can reveal truth by teaching, creating or demonstrating beauty. People are more open to beauty than they are to truth because beauty touches one in the heart. People do not yet know very well how to perceive truth with the heart, and therefore usually reduce it to mental perception where truth becomes personalized as ‘my truth,’ thereby creating illusion.

Soul expression is creative. That is the only life there is for soul consciousness. It involves the manifestation of truth in beautiful forms and in all expressions of mind, heart and action. This is the new consciousness now seeking to manifest in the world.

Always open to trust

We seek to control our lives when we do not trust. Our ego, perceiving itself to be vulnerable and insecure, uses control in an effort to protect itself.

At the root of our need to control, we find FEAR. It may be fear of the unknown. Fear of not coping. Fear of loss. Or possibly even fear of looking stupid. And as our efforts to control other people and events invariably fail, our fear increases.

Trust, on the other hand, is a quality of the soul. While control is a tool of the mind, TRUST AND FAITH ARE ASPECTS OF THE HEART. Trust comes with the deep knowing that we are spiritual beings in physical bodies. When we trust enough in life to give up our need to control, we can relax and open to the flow of energy in our lives. This brings peace of mind.

Quotations of Life, living and….

Follow your own path:

Life is complex. Each one of us must make his own path through life. There are no self-help manuals, no formulas, no easy answers. The right road for one is the wrong road for another. The journey of life is not paved in blacktop; it is not brightly lit, and it has no road signs. It is a rocky path through the wilderness.”

(M. Scott Peck)

We each have our own pathways to develop both personally and spiritually. They are based on our character and past experiences. No one else can identify our paths for us. Tune in to your inner guidance system and follow its direction.

“What every man needs, regardless of his job or the kind of work he is doing, is a vision of what his place is and may be. He needs an objective and a purpose. He needs a feeling and a belief that he has some worthwhile thing to do. What this is no one can tell him. It must be his own creation.”

(Joseph M. Dodge)

Learning from life

“We focus on the negatives, losing ourselves in the ‘problem.’ We point to our unhappy circumstances to rationalize our negative feelings. This is the easy way out. It takes, after all, very little effort to feel victimized.”

(Elizabeth Kubler-Ross)

Are we victims or are we students? These are the two ways of looking at life events and especially those we wish would not befall us.

I don’t like feeling like a victim and this is especially true since I like to see myself as a strong woman. But there are those times when I wear the rut deeper by going over and over about how unfairly I am being treated by a person or circumstance.

If we think there is a reason for our life here on earth, we may want to consider that events are life teachers. Rather than sink deep into a morass of misery and feeling totally helpless and unhappy, we can decide to look at ourselves and wonder if there is something of value in this experience.

Will I learn that believing that things have to be a certain way always leads to unhappiness? Or will I learn that maybe I need to change the way I look at life or change something about me? Does my persisting in saying ‘it shouldn’t be this way’ lead to my feeling better?

I do have a choice, though so many times my automatic response would be to think of all the reasons I have for feeling upset about a particular event. I so rarely consider that maybe this unhappy situation is a necessary step to a happier one.

(Judy Walden)

“Instead of looking at life as a narrowing funnel, we can see it ever widening to choose the things we want to do, to take the wisdom we’ve learned and create something.”

(Liz Carpenter)

Your darkest hours

I wish you light in your darkest hours. When life seems to be confusing or empty, and when your path seems to be hidden in the shadows of pain, doubt, despair, or unrest, may you find the light inside of you that will help you to see things as they truly are, for every night comes to an end, every storm runs its course, and light and peace always return to us.

I wish you the power of a perspective that allows you to see the beauty of the darkness, no matter how threatening your current situation, or how uneasy you may feel. There always is light for us to access, whether it be the light of God or the light of a close friend, or even the light within ourselves that is the power and the strength with which we’ve all been blessed to one extent or another.

The Internet Funda

The first steam engine invented in 1705 was a simple vertical piston and cylinder at the end of the pump handle. In 1873 a dynamo was created to produce electricity allowing steam engines to be always on. Soon the railways emerged allowing communities to do commerce.

Just in case you’re wondering why I took you through this industrial revolution crash course. The point is that several inter-connected innovations had to happen for 300 years for you to sit on your desktop and click. The parallels between the industrial revolution and Internet one are strong.

The internet began as an idea in the research labs in the mid 1960s. The mainframe, pc, the internet and then the browser all came within a span of just 30 years. What started out as a US militery experiment has been plugged in irrevocably in to our daily lives.

Three hundred years down the steam engine story sounds very similar to the search engine one.
